Australia Plasma and LCD TV Market 2005 2009 Forecast and Analysis Think Thin
This IDC study looks at the Australia market for plasma displays and LCD TVs. The combined plasma and LCD TV market in Australia has evolved to become very competitive, largely due to the heightened competition led by the Korean vendors especially in the plasma market. Consumers’ increased preference for the look and feel of flat TVs as well as the availability of high-quality content are important factors driving the growth of this market.
“In 2004, total plasma shipments accounted for almost 64% of the combined plasma and LCD TV market, while LCD TVs continued to lag behind, with price being the key inhibitor. This market is pegged for strong growth over the 2005–2009 forecast period, and is expected to witness greater competition among the vendors with the entrance of a number of nontraditional TV vendors. LCD TV shipments are expected to surpass plasma display shipments in 2008,” says Sophie Lo, research analyst, Consumer Digital Markets, IDC Australia.
